NICU full form and what happens inside

NICU stands for Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. It is the special nursery for newborns who arrive early, weigh less than expected, or need help with breathing, feeding or jaundice. The warmers, wires and monitors can look frightening on a first visit, yet much of NICU care is simply support and close observation while the baby grows stronger. Ask the paediatric team for a daily update. They expect the question and are happy to answer it.

CCU full form and how it differs from the ICU

CCU most often stands for Coronary Care Unit, an intensive care area meant for heart patients: a recent heart attack, unstable angina or a serious rhythm disturbance. In some hospitals the same letters are used for Critical Care Unit, which is a general ICU. Either way, a shift to the CCU means closer monitoring by trained staff, and not automatically that things have worsened. The ICU, in comparison, admits seriously ill patients of every kind, whether the problem lies in the lungs, the brain, a severe infection or recovery after major surgery.

ERCP full form and when it is advised

ERCP is short for Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography, a long name for a practical procedure. A flexible scope is passed through the mouth up to the point where the bile duct opens into the intestine. Through it the specialist can remove bile duct stones, relieve jaundice caused by a blockage, or place a small tube called a stent. It is done under sedation and usually takes less than an hour. RBS test normal range and what it really means

RBS means Random Blood Sugar, a sample taken at any time of day without fasting. As a broad guide for adults, a random value below 140 mg/dL is usually considered normal, while a value of 200 mg/dL or above along with symptoms like excessive thirst and frequent urination points towards diabetes. Values in between call for proper fasting tests and an HbA1c, not panic. One number on one day is never a diagnosis. Laboratories also print their own reference ranges, so read the range on your report and discuss it with a doctor before drawing conclusions.

PET scans and CT with angiogram, explained simply

PET scans, usually done as a combined PET-CT, show which tissues in the body are unusually active. Their main role is in cancer care: locating disease, checking how well treatment is working and planning the next step. A CT with angiogram, also called CT angiography, is a CT scan taken after injecting a dye that outlines the blood vessels. Doctors use it to study the arteries of the heart, brain, chest or abdomen without a conventional catheter procedure. Both are specialised scans done on a doctor's advice, neither is a routine health check-up to book on your own.
